How to Apply Mold Sealers

When you buy a mold sealer like our P591 KantStik for your process, it will be in a liquid form that is easy to apply. Be sure to check manufacturer guidelines to ensure compatibility with your materials and process before applying:

  1. Clean and dry the surface of your mold, and remove all traces of wax, release agents, sealers, etc.
  2. Saturate a clean cotton cloth in the sealer and squeeze out excess – the cloth shouldn't be dripping.
  3. Wipe on a smooth, continuous film of a few square feet at a time.
  4. While this layer of mold sealer is still wet, gently wipe the surface with a clean and dry cotton cloth from the outside until dry.
  5. Repeat 1-4 until the entire mold surface is coated, then allow the sealant to cure for an hour.

Using a high-quality mold cleaner is essential, as some of the grime and dirt that build up during the molding process can require specific solvents to remove properly. When you properly apply mold sealer during your industrial molding process, you can expect the resulting product to be of much higher quality and the demolding process to be far simpler – especially when you add in a mold release product.

The Benefits of a Mold Sealer

If you aren't sure if a mold sealer is right for your process, consider the benefits other companies are leveraging. A streamlined process is critical to staying competitive. The smart use of specifically formulated mold sealers, cleaners, and releases ensures you won't get left behind. By using a mold sealer, you can experience these benefits:

Improved Surface Quality

A mold sealer's core purpose is to fill in the micropores of your mold's surface. These teeny-tiny bubbles can appear in many common mold materials and cause severe sticking and imperfections to your end product. A mold sealer forms a solid layer and fills in these micropores, creating a smoother surface.

Faster Production

Between cleaning and preparation, your molding cycles can be fairly lengthy, reducing the number of products you create per hour. Because a sealer creates a lower-friction surface and prevents sticking, you can clean faster, demold quicker, and enjoy a more efficient molding cycle.

Higher Profitability

Sticking molds and charges can cause errors in demolding – products are bent out of shape due to physical stress or even damaged goods, which leave bits behind on the mold surface. These errors can be avoided with proper mold sealer application.

Improved Release Agent Performance

A mold release agent is an additional product capable of providing an additional layer of protection and lubrication, preventing the buildup of dirt and grime. When used in concert, mold sealers and mold releases can improve your process far more than one on its own.

Not all mold releases or mold sealers are appropriate with all materials. We spend countless hours tailoring our formulas to new and unique materials, so if you have any questions or concerns about your molding process needing something out of the ordinary, call us and get the attention you need.
